Will take strict action if educational institutes discourage use of Punjabi language: Mann

Prime Minister Bhagwant Mann said on Monday that the state government will take strict action against educational institutions if they are found to discourage the use of the Punjabi language on their campuses.

The CM spoke on the final day of the inter-university youth party at Punjabi University, Patiala.

Mann said he had noticed that some educational institutions were imposing fines on students for using the Punjabi language as a means of communication on campuses. He said strict measures will be taken as it was unjustified and undesirable as Punjabi was the native language of people residing in the state.

The chief minister said that education was the top priority of the state government as it was a key to the success of every individual and the state government has sufficient resources to strengthen and rejuvenate the education system.

Speaking about job vacancies in the state, the CM said that the government has already started recruitment processes in various departments of the state with more than 20,000 government job vacancies already given to the youth.

The CM said the state government’s motive is to make the state’s youth job providers and not job seekers. The CM said the state was fortunate to have received two sessions from the G20, first from March 15 to 17 on education and then from June 22 to 23 on labor in the holy land of Amritsar.

The CM added that extensive arrangements will be made to welcome the dignitaries attending the summit. He said that during the planned cultural events, the guests will be served traditional Punjabi dishes with a glimpse of the rich Punjabi culture. Mann said arrangements will also be made if the dignitaries wish to visit other districts of the state.
