These iPhone users may no longer be able to use WhatsApp from October 24. This is why.
WhatsApp has officially revealed its iPhone kill list! Meta’s instant messaging app no longer supports some of the older iPhones. This has also been confirmed by WhatsApp updates tracker WabetaInfo. WhatsApp has announced that it will end support for iPhones running iOS 10 and iOS 11. So, which iPhones are on the list? Those who use iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c will not be able to use WhatsApp – the D-day is October 24.
And what other iPhones can’t enjoy WhatsApp? According to the report, all iPhones currently running on iOS 10 or iOS 11 will no longer be able to access WhatsApp. Since iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C are not compatible with iOS 12, these iPhone users will have to find other ways to communicate instead of buying WhatsApp or a new device.
The same fate also threatens iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, but they have a lifeline. Fortunately, the owners are eligible for the iOS 12 update, so if their phones are still running iOS 11 or earlier, they can update their OS.
Why WhatsApp is removing support for older iPhones
“To keep up with the latest technological advancements, we routinely stop supporting older operating systems to focus our resources on supporting the latest. If we stop supporting your operating system, you will be notified several times and reminded to upgrade your device to continue using WhatsApp,” WhatsApp’s FAQ section said.
What should iPhone users do to get the best experience with WhatsApp
- Update to the latest operating software: WhatsApp says it supports iOS 12 or newer versions, but it is recommended to use the latest version on your iPhone. You can update in easy ways – go to Settings then General and tap Software Update to get the latest iOS version.
- Do not use unlocked devices: WhatsApp suggests that changes may affect your device’s functionality, which is why the company cannot support devices that use modified versions of the iPhone’s operating system.
- Make sure your iPhone has texting or calling capabilities: For a smooth experience with WhatsApp, make sure your phone can receive text messages or calls during the verification process.
