Royal Enfield is one of the oldest two-wheeler manufacturers in the world. Royal Enfield which is now one of the most popular motorcycle brands in India had a variety of models in the past and even now they are working on a variety of new models. In addition to the regular Bullet motorcycle, they also had a motorcycle with a diesel engine. The diesel version of the Bullet was discontinued in 2000, but even today these motorcycles can be found in rural parts of India. It was the only mass-produced diesel motorcycle on the market. It was known as diesel Taurus and here we have a video of an old man launching a diesel bullet.
The video was uploaded by royalenfieldholic on their Instagram page. The video is going viral on the internet and shows an old man starting a diesel motorcycle. This video shows the old man pushing the diesel bullet onto the road and then sitting on it to start the motorcycle. The new Royal Enfield motorcycles come with electric start, but this is a 1992 motorcycle that comes with none of these. The old man sits on the motorcycle and tries to start the motorcycle.
Old Royal Enfield motorcycles were notorious for bribes. The old man then starts pushing the kickstarter with his leg and the kicker comes back into action at some point. Then he checks the choke and starts the engine. The motorcycle starts and the iconic diesel engine sound of the motorcycle can be heard in the video. The motorcycle does not look like new. It looks like the original decals on the bike have been completely stripped and repainted in black. Diesel Taurus was also Royal Enfield’s most fuel-efficient motorcycle. Unlike other motorcycles and scooters, diesel Taurus does not guzzle much fuel. It had a claimed fuel economy of 86 kmpl, which was more than any other motorcycle on sale at the time.
The motorcycle was powered by a 325 cc Greaves-Lombardini indirect injection, single cylinder diesel engine. It generated 6.5 hp and a maximum torque of 15 Nm. High fuel consumption and low running costs of the motorcycle made it popular with buyers from rural areas. Like other Royal Enfield motorcycles, the Taurus was also a heavy motorcycle at 196 kilograms. The motorcycle was intended to save fuel, which means that the top speed of the motorcycle was 65 km/h. It is said that even after Royal Enfield took Taurus off the market, it was still being produced by a Punjab tractor manufacturer. Sooraj Tractors made this motorcycle with minor cosmetic changes.
Modern Royal Enfield motorcycles have come a long way. They are now much more refined and economical than ever before (not as economical as Taurus). Royal Enfield Hunter has recently been launched in the market and they are also working on new models like Himalayan 450, Shotgun 650, Super Meteor and also next generation Royal Enfield Bullet 350 in the market.
