Veteran actor Arun Bali dies at 79

Veteran actor Arun Bali died on Friday morning around 4.30 am from the effects of a long-term illness. The senior actor’s son, Ankush Bali, confirmed to that the cremation will take place on Saturday while they wait for some family members to arrive in Mumbai from the US. The actor was last seen in Aamir Khan starrer Laal Singh Chaddha and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Goodbye which was released Friday.

Born in Jalandhar, Punjab, in 1942, Arun Bali is known for his performances in 3 Idiots (2009), PK (2014), Airlift (2016), Kedarnath (2018) and Panipat (2019) among many other films. He made his TV debut in 1989 with Doosra Kewal. He went on to many TV shows like Chankaya, Swabhimaan and Kumkum Pjaara Sa Bandhan.

Arun was diagnosed earlier this year with a rare neuromuscular disease, Myasthenia Gravis. Caused by a communication breakdown between nerves and muscles, the illness took its toll and he was often in and out of the hospital.

Nupur Alankar, a member of television performers CINTAA, had said in an interview with ETimes in January this year: “I was on duty at Arun Bali, sir when I sensed something seriously wrong with his speech and pointed it out to him. I tried to contact his son Ankush but I couldn’t get through then I called Rajeev Menon the colleague of Ankush and got his other number and I advised him to take Arun sir to the hospital immediately. Later I was told about his condition by Mr. Arun’s daughter.”

It was speculated that his son had abandoned him, which was rejected by his son.
