The state cabinet on Friday approved the transfer of assets and manpower under the health department to the medical education department for starting medical colleges in several districts
These districts include Amethi, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, Kushinagar, Kaushambi, Gonda, Chandauli, Pilibhit, Bulandshahr, Bijnor, Lakhimpur Kheri, Lalitpur, Sultanpur and Sonbhadra districts.
The hospitals, referral hospitals and manpower working in these hospitals will now be part of the medical colleges for a period of three years and their attachment can be extended to 5 years.
The colleges come under the creation of new medical colleges with an existing district/referring hospital scheme supported by the center. The state government is currently working on the “one district, one medical college” program. As part of this initiative, several district hospitals are being added to the new medical colleges.
The goal is to improve the clinical facilities in all districts of the state and also to get more MBBS and specialist doctors for the state. Once transferred to the medical training department, the manpower, including nurses and ward boys, receive their salary from the medical training department and also receive pay protection.
