UGC’s approval must for universities to offer Open, Distance Learning courses | Education

Pre-approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) is now mandatory for universities to offer open and distance learning courses.

“Universities may, with the approval of the Commission, offer courses in Open and distance learning mode, provided that they meet all the conditions set out in the regulations, whatever they may be called, regarding the open and distance learning mode that has been notified by the UGC from time to time,” the committee said.

At the 562nd meeting of the commission held on Oct. 28, amendments to the existing regulations were approved and published in the Gazette of India on Nov. 18, it added.

Under previous rules, universities were allowed to offer open and distance education programs without prior approval from the commission, provided they meet “all conditions laid down in the regulations, whatever they are called, relating to the open and distance learning mode. from time to time by the UGC.”

The main rules were published in February 2018 in the Gazette of India.
