UGC asks universities to adopt tourist destinations, carry out student visits | Education

University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked higher education institutions to adopt a nearby tourist destination and conduct various activities, including student visits.

“The students can also be encouraged to post their live experiences through social media channels. The activities of the universities can also be uploaded to the UGC Activity Monitoring Port (UAMP),” the committee said.

UGC informed that at a May 17, 2022 review meeting held by PM Modi, it was advised that universities should identify a tourist destination and encourage students to learn about that place, planning visits as part of annual study tours.

“The young students should be encouraged to visit the tourist destinations of India to learn about the rich Indian heritage, culture, architecture, wildlife, etc. To achieve this goal, the Ministry of Tourism has issued a concept note prepared for the adoption of tourist destinations by universities…To increase the knowledge of students about our country…” according to the committee.
