Microblogging site Twitter is bringing podcasts to its platform, according to a company blog post. Twitter brings podcasts to its platform as part of its redesigned Spaces tab. Twitter says the Spaces tab is for those who want to express themselves beyond the 280-character limit for tweets.
“Incorporating podcasts into Spaces, where audio conversations take place on Twitter, is another way we continue to invest in audio creators,” the company said in its blog post. Twitter said it started with the idea of podcasts with a redesigned audio experience in the Spaces tab. The new design introduces personal hubs that group audio content by specific themes such as news, music, sports, and more. Listeners have access to a more personalized selection of live and recorded Spaces that discuss the topics most relevant to them.
The new hubs will also feature the most “popular and engaging” podcasts from around the world. Twitter, in its blog post, said its internal research said 45 percent of people who use Twitter in the US also listen to podcasts on a monthly basis, so the platform will suggest engaging podcasts to help people find the topics they want to hear easily and to listen more about. There are also controls that allow users to tell Twitter if they like a particular category or podcast. “Just give a podcast a ‘thumbs up’ or ‘thumbs down’ to let us know if the content is more or less interesting to you,” the company said.
The new Spaces features, including podcasts, have begun rolling out to a global English-speaking audience on both iOS and Android. Twitter also invites users to provide feedback on the new features.
A parliamentary panel on Friday questioned top Twitter officials about a whistleblower’s revelations about India’s operations, dressing them up as their responses on the issue of data security and privacy were “unsatisfactory,” sources previously said.
