New Toyota Innova Hycross gets sportier front end, updated interior, increased safety and 2.0-litre petrol engine with hybrid option
Toyota has unveiled an all-new Innova in India, where it has been named Innova HyCross. Innova Hycross is completely new in many aspects, such as the design, interior, technical features, platform and powertrain options. It is manufactured at the company’s factory in Bidadi, near Bengaluru. Deliveries of the new Innova Hycross will start from January next year.
Innova Hycross dimensions, features
The new Innova Hycross is longer (4,755mm) and wider (1,850mm) than the existing Crysta, although the height of 1,795mm is the same. The wheelbase is 100mm longer, compared to the Crysta’s 2,750mm. With larger proportions, users can expect a wider experience. Ground clearance of 185mm is the same as before and there are no changes to the approach and departure angles.
The front of the new Innova Crysta has a sportier look with a distinctive hexagonal grille, chrome accents, streamlined dual-layer projector headlamps, lower-mounted LED daytime running lights with integrated turn signals and a sturdy bumper with faux aluminum sections.
Side profile is recognizable by a new set of alloy wheels and unique pleats along the door panels. Some design elements, such as wraparound taillights, resemble those of the Avanza Veloz MPV sold in international markets.
Inside, the new Innova Hycross gets a 2-layer dashboard in two-tone finish, dash-mounted gearshift console, 10-inch floating touchscreen, silver accents on air conditioning vents, two-tone interiors and padded leather seats. Other highlights include wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, faux wood and aluminum trims, mid-row captain’s seats with ottoman function and mood lighting.
The new Innova will be available in 7 and 8 seat configurations. Safety has been upgraded with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, with features such as Lane Keep Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control. All variants will be equipped with disc brakes on all four wheels. A 360° camera has also been added to the new Innova Hycross.
Toyota Innova Hycross powertrain, mileage
The new Innova Hycross will have a 2.0-liter petrol engine (M20A-FKS), which can deliver a maximum power of 174 hp and a maximum torque of 197 hp. It is mated to a CVT gearbox. Hybrid variants of Innova Hycross will have the same engine in combination with Toyota’s 5th generation high-performance hybrid technology (M20A FXS).
This powertrain uses the Atkinson or Miller cycle to improve efficiency. It delivers 152 hp and 187 Nm. With the electric motor, the combined power is 186 hp. It is unlikely that any of the variants of the Innova Hycross will be manual.
At launch, the Innova Hycross will have best-in-class fuel economy of over 21 kmpl. The strong hybrid variants will have an option to run the vehicle in full EV mode for a limited range. This feature is already available with the Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
