TCS in email to employees: Come to office 3 days a week or face action

Indian multinational information technology (IT) services and consulting giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has sent emails to staff asking them to work from the office at least three days a week. TCS employees were told via an internal email that they would be required to work in the office three days a week, according to their individual supervisors’ rosters.

The email did not specify a deadline for the employees, but asked them to contact their HR business partners for more information.

Previously, TCS had taken a social media approach to persuade employees to come to the office. TCS used platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram in a campaign that started a few weeks ago.

The software services company tried to evoke nostalgia about working from the office through social media posts.

TCS 25×25 model

Under the TCS 25×25 plan, the IT giant would adopt a new business model in which only 25% of its staff would be in the office at any given time. The plan will be phased in in 2025.

“Once the pandemic is contained and we start to normalize, we will begin to transition to a more hybrid working model in line with our Vision 25×25, which captures all the benefits of the external model and addresses the challenges,” a chief executive had said.

“We envision that by the year 2025, no more than 25% of our employees will need to be in a TCS facility at any given time, and no individual should spend more than 25% of their time in a TCS facility to 100% productive. We believe this is a more balanced approach and will give our employees the best of both worlds. In this model, the role of the office itself will change significantly.”

“In the new model, offices become hubs of ideas and innovation, leveraging face-to-face interactions for brainstorming and team building, while allowing day-to-day work to be done anywhere.”

Kind regards!

As you know, we started working from office and our senior leaders have been working from TCS offices for a while as things have become normal. It is now time for our larger teams to start working from the office as well. This will also be an opportunity to welcome a significant number of our new colleagues who have joined us over the past two years, most of whom have not yet been to a TCS office.

As part of our Return to Office initiative, all TCS employees are expected to work from the office at least 3 days a week. Your respective managers will now schedule you to work from the TCS office and you will receive notifications about this. If you need support, please contact your HR Business Partner.

Please note that adherence to the schedules is mandatory and your attendance will be tracked. Obviously, any non-compliance will be taken seriously and administrative action may be taken.

I am sure all of you will meet the requirement of ‘Return to Office’ and help bring the workplace back to life.

Hope to see you at the office!

regards
