DINDIGUL: School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi inaugurated the ‘Friends of Library’ program worth Rs 56.25 lakh in the district on Thursday.
During the inauguration, the minister explained the importance of reading and emphasized that there is no substitute for reading.
“Under the scheme, 25 books are given to five ‘Friends of the Library’ for 15 days. The books, after being read, can be exchanged among five people. The scheme, which involves a total of 12,500 volunteers, is an investment in building an intellectual generation. Our goal is to reach at least 15 lakh subscribers,” he said.
Minister of Food and Civil Supply, R. Sakarapani, in his speech appealed to the students and the public to make the most of this opportunity.
K Nandhakumar, Commissioner for School Education, K Elambahavath, Director of Illam Thedi Kalvi’s Program, and C Amuthavalli, Co-Director of Public Libraries Directorate also attended the inaugural event.
