Recent Match Report – WI Women vs NZ Women 2nd ODI 2022

New Zealand women 171 for 8 (Green 48, Down 33, Ramharack 3-22, Selman 2-30) beat West Indian Women 169 for 9 (Matthews 46, Henry 30, Carson 3-31, Jensen 2-27) by two wickets

Things got tighter than it should have been for New Zealand as they lost 4 for 3 late in the chase, but Hayley Jensen reached the winning line after Carson survived two balls from Karishma Ramharack who had taken three of those wickets.
An off-spinner, Carson had a stellar debut when she claimed West Indian top scorer Hayley Matthews’ main wicket as her first scalp – lbw on the back foot – followed by Chinelle Henry and Shakera Selman. She, Fran Jonas and Amelia Kerr caused a lot of trouble together and their combined numbers were: 28-3-65-5. Kerr and Jonas each gave up only 17 of their 10 overs.

The West Indies had dropped to 29 for 3 in the 11th left and were in even more trouble when Lea Tahuhu got Stafanie Taylor good catch by Isabella Gaze and Kerr Kyshona Knight took a lead in the blankets.

Matthews and Henry built a score of 47 for the sixth wicket before Carson made her impact and the lower order continued to try to watch the 50 overs.

The West Indies fought back with the ball early in the chase as the New Zealand squad dropped to 51 for 3 but their run rate was good which meant little pressure on the scoreboard. Green and Lauren Down added 66 for the fourth wicket to break the back of the goal, then Green and Brooke Halliday got them with six runs for the late stutter that proved inexpensive.
