Raju Srivastava remains on ventilator

Popular comedian-actor Raju Srivastava remains “critical and on ventilator” in the AIIMS intensive care unit (ICU) here, hospital sources said Friday. The 58-year-old stand-up comedian was hospitalized on Wednesday after a heart attack and later underwent angioplasty.

“Srivastava remains critical and is on a ventilator in the ICU,” the source told PTI.

The comedian is treated by Dr. Nitish Naik, professor in the AIIMS Department of Cardiology.

The stand-up artist’s manager said there was no improvement in his condition.

“He is not conscious. There is not much improvement in his health. His brain is not working. Doctors say, wait and wait. Pray for his speedy recovery,” Srivastav’s business manager told PTI.

The comic suffered a heart attack while exercising at a hotel gym here.

Srivastava, who has been in the entertainment industry since the late 1980s, gained recognition after participating in the first season of the stand-up comedy show “The Great Indian Laughter Challenge” in 2005.

He has appeared in Hindi films such as “Maine Pyar Kiya”, “Baazigar”, “Bombay to Goa” (remake) and “Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiya”. He was one of the contestants on season three of “Bigg Boss”.

Srivastava is the current chairman of the Film Development Council Uttar Pradesh.
