Rafael Nadal’s chances of ending 2022 as world No 1 helped by Novak Djokovic in Paris | Tennis | Sport

The injury proved costly for Alcaraz, who announced on Saturday that he had torn his abdomen and would be sidelined for six weeks, missing both the ATP and Davis Cup finals. Although Nadal had a shot at the top ranking, he said he was no longer interested in fighting to become the world’s number 1.

“Something I said a long time ago: I will no longer fight to be number 1,” said the 36-year-old when he arrived in Paris-Bercy. “I did that in the past. I have achieved that goal a few times in my career, which I have been very, very happy and proud of. But I’m at a point in my tennis career when I’m not fighting to be number 1.”
