Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers’ Association, JNUTA members have expressed their concern and sadness over the Central Government’s decision to discontinue the MANF Fellowship Scheme for students.
“This policy decision to withdraw a fellowship designed to promote higher education among minority communities is an attack on the values of inclusiveness and democracy that are integral to the higher education system that India requires,” said an official statement from the Union.
“The government’s decision to discontinue the MANF Fellowship is consistent with its negligent attitude towards the nation’s minorities. It should also be seen as a continuation of the anti-student new education policy. SFI reiterates our commitment to to fight for public education and demand the reinstatement of the MANF scheme,” said the official statement from the Student’s Federation of India.
During the protests outside the Ministry of Education, the Delhi Police reportedly detained more than 100 students. Students have claimed that the police were violent towards them despite the protest being peaceful.
