Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India]December 9 (ANI): President Droupadi Murmu said on Friday that the progress of any country depends on the quality of its human resources, which further depends on the quality of education.
Speaking at the annual meeting of Doon University in Dehradun, the president said, “The progress of any country depends on the quality of its human resources and its quality depends on the quality of education.”
She also praised the students for their outstanding academic performance.
“23 of the 36 gold medalists are girls, proving that women have plenty of opportunities in this institution,” said the president.
State Governor Lieutenant General (Retd) Gurmeet Singh and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also attended the occasion.
President Droupadi Murmu concluded her speech at Doon University with a short extemporaneous statement, calling on students to stay connected to their roots, regardless of the position they reach in the life to come.
Earlier on Thursday, the president said Uttarakhand has huge potential for “nature tourism”, “adventure tourism” and “medical tourism”.
She attended the civic reception hosted by the Uttarakhand government in Dehradun in her honor on Thursday night.
President Murmu also on that occasion virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several projects related to healthcare, energy generation and supply, technical education and transportation.
Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami presented the president with a scarf made of Kandali fibre. In addition, the president was also presented with a memento made of a mixture of Uttarakhand’s folk art style Thape and Aipan.
Addressing the gathering, the president said that the contribution of the country and people of Uttarakhand to mother India is immense.
“Uttarakhand is the source of many rivers that have irrigated and developed much of India. The Himalayas and Uttarakhand are embedded in the hearts and souls of the Indians. Our sages have taken refuge in the caves and caverns of the Himalayas in search of knowledge. This state has been a source of well-being, both in terms of spiritual tranquility and physical healing,” she said.
The president noted that there are many famous naturopathy centers in Uttarakhand where a large number of people from India and abroad come to avail health benefits.
“The state has tremendous potential for ‘nature tourism’, ‘adventure tourism’ and ‘medical tourism,'” she said.
The president remembered the contributions of brave soldiers of Uttarakhand in defense of India and said that she would express her gratitude to the brave sons of Uttarakhand on behalf of the people of India.
She also appreciated the people of Uttarakhand and said that the hard-working and talented residents of the state have made significant contributions to Uttarakhand’s development journey. (ANI)
