To say that No Man’s Sky has come a long way since its launch in 2016 would be an understatement. But for all the welcome expansions for the space sim on an epic scale, gameplay elements such as survival, crafting, and the interesting choice of inventory layout have yet to come to fruition.was an obstacle for some players. However, with the new 4.0, “Waypoint” update, players have much more freedom over how the game plays.

Revealed today with the expected bundle emojis on twitterand timed with the game’s impressive release today on Nintendo Switch, the Waypoint update for No Man’s Sky is a fat one. Along with a range of quality of life improvements, NMS players can now tailor the game’s difficulty to their preferred playstyle, toning down or increasing the challenge. The inventory has also seen a dramatic welcome improvement, making everything easier to sort and find. And if you like a more chilled out space journey (or stumble across something else while playing), the “Relaxed Game Mode” promises “less danger and minimal grind”.

The blog for the update goes into some finer details, including a new automatic storage system. Thank God. In addition, you can now sell items on the Galactic Trade Network while on the planet via the new ‘personal trade rocket’. And if you join this game’s mega-universe on Switch, you’ll be treated to some unique rewards during the early days of the game’s arrival on the platform. You’ll get a new ship and a new multi-tool if you reach the servers on Switch before November 7. The Switch version is currently available on physical media or on the eShop for the old standard of $60.

While it was a wild ride to see No Man’s Sky proving all the haters wrong, there’s no doubt that the inventory management and survival aspects have been too abrasive at worst and clunky at best. If those have kept you from experiencing the scope and scale of this title, you simply have no excuse left.
