New features may include battery status, enhanced A15 chip

This won’t be the first time we hear about the A15 chip powering the non-Pro iPhone 14 models; analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared details that the A16 chip will only be seen on the Pro models and that iPhone 14 and 14 Plus will get a souped-up version of the A15 chip that powers the iPhone 13 Pros. If true, this would be the first time Apple will limit the new chip to the Pro models and provide an old chip on the iPhone flagship series with an annual refresh. The report did not share additional details about the chip.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro model always-on display, battery status

This year’s Pro models may also get a new screen design with a pill cutout instead of the notch. The extra screen allows the Pro models to bring back the good old battery percentage indicator that has been gone since the launch of iPhone X. This is more convenient than scrolling down the control center or the iOS 16 beta battery percentage indicator in the battery bar, which can be hard to read at times.

Apart from the details about the battery status, MacRumors report also sheds light on iPhone 14 Pro’s always-on display behavior on the lock screen. The iPhone 14 Pro duo shows network info, battery details, date and time on the lock screen, but when the screen is in always-on mode, the foreground is dimmed, the depth effect is removed and widgets flow in and out.
