National Education Policy requires changes, says Delhi deputy CM Sisodia

National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 requires changes and “certain points need to be linked” in the schedule, Delhi Deputy Prime Minister Manish Sisodia said on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022.

Moreover, in his speech at a program organized by Delhi Teachers University, the deputy CM said that education-related policies should have a 360-degree view and include all aspects, including teacher training.

“Changes are needed in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. There are certain points that need to be linked in this policy. It is also Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s view that education-related policy should have a 360-degree view and that all aspects, including teacher education, should be included,” said Sisodia.

According to an official statement, the “Connecting the Dots” program was held to discuss the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. There is a “huge gap” in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and it “cannot be implemented immediately,” Sisodia claimed.

“If we decide to implement NEP in Delhi, who will teach the students from grades 9 to 12. What will be the qualification of those teachers? Nothing has been discussed about that yet. There is so much gap in policy,” he says.

Sisodia added that the Delhi government has provided “every possible facility” for teachers in Delhi to be “well-trained”.

“Our government is part of teacher education and we have provided all possible facilities to properly train teachers. The teaching profession is highly respected, but unfortunately it is not encouraged in society,” said Sisodia.

In addition, he added that there was a “big difference” in formulating a policy and implementing it.
