Mumbai Indians appoints a central team for its growing global cricket footprint

Mahela Jayawardene and Zaheer Khan Elevated to New Roles in Global Network #OneFamily

The Mumbai Indians ownership has led Mahela Jayawardene and Zaheer Khan to take on new roles with the aim of building a global cricketing legacy for MI.

With the expansion of MI #A family which now includes: MI Emirates and MI Cape Town together with Mumbai Indians, the team leadership recognized the need for a central team. This would ensure consistency across the ‘One family of teams’, about the ethos, values ​​and learning that have made MI one of the most beloved cricket brands in the world. As part of building the structure, two MI veterans Mahela Jayawardene and Zaheer Khan with in-depth knowledge of the MI value system and a proven track record, are elevated to new roles.

Mahela Jayawardene has been appointed as the Global Head of Performance, MI, providing senior leadership of the group’s cricketing operations worldwide, including overall strategic planning, creating an integrated global high-performance ecosystem, as well as responsibility for each team’s coaching and support structures, working closely with the team lead coaches to ensure synergies, a consistent cricket brand and implementation of MI best practices.

Zaheer Khan has been appointed as the Global Head of Cricket Development, MI and will be responsible for player development, building on MI’s robust program of identifying and nurturing talent and applying the same across geographies, which has been core to MI’s philosophy and success. Each geography has its unique set of challenges and Zaheer’s elevated role will play an important role in helping MI teams around the world.
