Lionel Messi, one of the greatest of all time, is a name that hardly needs an introduction. The football superstar inspired Argentina to the 2022 FIFA World Cup final with a dominant 3-0 victory over Croatia in the first semi-final. Not only did Messi score Argentina’s opener from the spot, but was key to the team’s overall dominance in the game. After Argentina sealed their progression to the final, Messi had a heartbreaking interview with a reporter who got emotional as he thanked the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner for everything he has done in his career.
“The last thing I want to tell you and it’s not a question, but I just wanted to say that the World Cup final is coming up and sure, we all [Argentinians] wants to win the cup,” the reporter reportedly said in the interview.
“I just want to tell you that regardless of the results, there is something that no one can take away from you, and it is the fact that you resonated with Argentinians, all of them. I am serious. There is no child who does not have your team flannel, It doesn’t matter if it’s fake, real or made up. Really, you’ve made your mark on everyone’s life. And that goes beyond winning a World Cup for me.
“No one can take that away from you and this is my gratitude, for the amount of happiness you bring to many people,” she added.
While the reporter praised Messi for his performance, the seven-time winner couldn’t help but smile.

Following the semi-final victory, Messi also suggested that the upcoming FIFA World Cup final will be the last time he will wear the Argentina shirt. In an illustrious career in which Messi has won virtually everything, the FIFA World Cup remains the only trophy that has misled him. On December 18, Messi would try to get this monkey off his back as Argentina take on France in the top battle of the ongoing mega event in Qatar.
Argentina had also reached the final of the FIFA World Cup in 2014, but Mesi’s men suffered a 1-0 defeat against Germany in that match. La Albiceleste hopes for a different fortune this time.
