Karnataka students get bilingual option: UG, PG students can now attempt same question paper in both English & Kannada

Students of state public universities in Karnataka pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate courses can now write their exams in Kannada, English or a combination of both languages. The State Higher Education Council (SHEC) came to this decision on Wednesday after a meeting convened by Minister of Higher Education Dr CN Ashwathnarayan. Though earlier the exams could be written in English or Kannada, the decision to introduce the bilingual option will bring convenience to the students. This option is currently present in polytechnic courses.

Speaking at the 23rd annual general meeting, Ashwathnarayan added that more investment and emphasis should be placed on research projects, the IE report said. The minister also recently announced that a new portal will be launched on 25 December to address the grievances of the (retired) staff of the higher education department. “The new portal would serve as a platform to solve many issues including retirement, promotion, placement, out-of-court transfer,” ANI report quoted Ashwathnarayan as saying.
