It seems that many popular third-party apps were not quite prepared for the new camera technology of the iPhone 14 Pro. Some iPhone 14 Pro users are unable to take photos and images using third-party apps such as Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram. These issues include the camera shaking, rattling and even making physical noises.
iPhone 14 Pro camera issues in third-party apps
Concerned iPhone 14 Pro users have taken to Reddit and Twitter to share their experiences with these issues. On Reddit, a user explains:
So I have experienced my camera vibrating uncontrollably when I open Snapchat or use the camera for Instagram. However, I don’t run into any issues when using the regular camera app.
Another iPhone 14 Pro user says:
I picked up my new iPhone 14 pro yesterday and am getting occasional camera shake (by shake I mean I can see and hear it shake) in Snapchat.
My iPhone 14 Pro just arrived and when I opened Snapchat the camera was shaking a lot and making a pretty strange mechanical noise
Other users agreed to say they’ve seen similar issues with Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok. A handful of videos showing this issue have also been shared on social media. In the videos, you can see the iPhone 14 Pro’s camera shaking in the third-party apps, while the physical camera module itself also makes a sort of grinding/rattling noise.
This video below from TikTok does an excellent job of showing the software issue in addition to the iPhone 14 Pro’s camera module rattling. It was posted on Saturday by TikTok user Damian Munoz:
At this point, it seems that this issue only affects the iPhone 14 Pro camera when used in a third-party app. Most of the complaints on social media say the problem occurs in social media apps like Snapchat, TikTok and Instagram.
Since this iPhone 14 Pro camera shake/rattling issue only affects the camera in third-party apps, it is almost certainly a software bug. It’s likely that these third-party apps weren’t prepared for the iPhone 14 Pro’s camera changes. In particular, it may have something to do with optical image stabilization, hence the rattling noises the camera module itself makes.
There is currently no solution for this problem. Affected apps, such as Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok, will likely need to roll out updates to their respective apps to fix the issue.
