The Asia Cup match between India and Sri Lanka saw another final thriller as the Dasun Shanaka-led side continued their resurgence since their opening game defeat to Afghanistan. As Sri Lanka needed two runs from the last two deliveries in Dubai, Arshdeep Singh threw a short slower ball that Shanaka was unable to hit. However, the skipper of Sri Lanka started running for the single, while Bhanuka Rajapaksa steamed to the striker’s end. Rishabh Pant missed his throw to the stumps, allowing Rajapaksa to enter safely, but Arshdeep had a chance to drive Shanaka out of the non-striker’s end.

However, the left-arm pacemaker also missed his throw and Sri Lanka was able to take another point as a result of the overthrow and seal the win.

With the two wins in two matches, Sri Lanka is almost certain of a place in the final.

India, meanwhile, is on the brink of elimination, and they need Sri Lanka and Afghanistan to beat Pakistan now, while also securing a big enough win over Afghanistan themselves to ensure they continue at Net Run Rate.

India, after the defeat to Pakistan at the same location, was set to work by Shanaka.

Rohit Sharma boosted the team with his 41-ball 72, but the rest of the batting formation faltered when India scored 173/8 in their 20 overs.

Half a century after openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis then gave chase to Sri Lanka, and despite losing four wickets for just 13 runs down the middle, Shanaka and Rajapaksa set an unbeaten score of 64 runs to take Sri Lanka to take home with a ball to Reserve.
