According to the latest reports, the social network is now rolling out a new feature that will allow users to send “view once text messages” to contact, just like the read-only images and videos sent on WhatsApp.
This will further protect the content shared on the platform between contacts.
According to
WABetaInfo, the feature is currently only available in the Android beta version of WhatsApp. This feature allows users to send messages that can only be viewed once before disappearing completely from the platform. A padlock-style button with the traditional send-message logo may one day be available in the app to access the feature, the report added. With this feature, users do not have to delete the crucial information after sending and wait for the recipient to confirm that they have read the message, as the feature automatically deletes the message from the recipient’s phone.
Just like the fact that once viewed images and videos cannot be forwarded and copied, such once viewed posts will also not be easily shared.
WhatsApp currently prevents recipients from taking a screenshot of a piece of content once they use the most recent version of the app, but it’s unclear if this protection will be extended to text messages, the report said.
Earlier this month, the messaging platform also introduced a new shortcut for disappearing messages on Android beta.
The new shortcut will be placed in the “Manage Storage” section and marked as a space saving tool. Meanwhile, WhatsApp has started rolling out a new feature that gives users the ability to search for groups by entering a contact name on the Desktop version. The feature appeared for some users after installing the latest WhatsApp Desktop update.
