Google is rolling out a new “Follow” feature in Slides that allows users to collaborate in real time with their colleagues.
The new “Follow” feature builds on the existing feature that allows users to see which slide their colleague is on, the tech giant said in its Workspace Updates blog post.
With the new feature, when users click on a collaborator’s avatar, they can jump to the slide they’re on in the Slideshows toolbar and follow along as they move around and edit a slideshow.
It has no admin control and is enabled by default.
To follow a contributor, click their avatar in the Slides toolbar. Hovering over a followed avatar will bring up a “Following” badge. To unfollow a contributor, click again their avatar,” according to Google.
You automatically stop following the collaborator if: “the collaborator refreshes or leaves the presentation”, “you make changes to the presentation”, “you click another slide”, or “you enter slideshow mode”.
Earlier this year, the tech giant had announced the ability to join or present on a Google Meet call from within Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides.
