Existing Education Is A ‘selection System’: Raga | Jaipur News

Kota: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi interacted with about 33 students at Bharat Jodo Yatra camp on Saturday afternoon during lunch break in Arneta village in Keshraipatan area of Bundi district.
The students, including six girls, are undergoing free coaching for IIT and NEET at three different coaching institutes in Kota city under the Rajasthan government-funded Mukhyamantari Anuprati coaching program for students from disadvantaged and economically weakened sections of the society.
Chief of State Ashok Gehlot, Congress Leader Jairam Ramesh, PCC Chief Govind Singh Dotasra attended Rahul Gandhi during the interaction.
In interaction, Durgesh Vaishnav, a NEET aspirant from Sawai Madhopur district, who was taking coaching under the program in Kota, shared his concerns with Rahul that there was only one government secondary school in his native Sumanpura village in Khandar tehsil in Sawai Madhopur and most of the local girls failed to continue their studies.
“As far as I am concerned, Rahulji looked to CM Ashok Gehlot, who assured that he would move high school to upper school immediately,” said Durgesh.
“Rahul is so simple and humble that I didn’t feel like I wasn’t speaking to such a great personality, but to an ordinary common man like us,” Durgesh said.
Rahul also secured an IIT aspirant identified as Khushi Meghwal (class 11) from Kota for admission into the Taekwondo training academy.
She expressed concern that the various government scholarship exams are being canceled and scrapped. Rahul secured an investigation into the matter and assured that he would write to the concerned authority, Khushi said.
“When I told Rahul about my passion for Taekwondo, he said he is also a martial artist and assured me immediate admission to the nearby Taekwondo academy,” Khushi said. Rahul Gandhi called the existing education system in the country a ‘selection system’.
“Rahul said it is a selection system in the country and not an education system. Education teaches one to ask questions, while the existing education system teaches how to get selected for exams,” said a faculty who was present with students in the interaction.
“While communicating with students, Rahul claimed that he had marched all over India and most of the children appeared to choose mainly 6-7 professions including IAS, doctor, engineer, lawyer, judge and asked them why it is that only those career prospects were at stake,” said group coordinator Vinod Sharma.
The students said they were not aware of other career options.
“The person who works with his hands (for livelihood) doesn’t have much respect in India, a mechanic or manual laborer doesn’t get respect here but the same person gets respect abroad, gets a loan from the government so that he can raise money in bigger companies, Rahul told students and referred to reputable international companies as an example,” Sharma said.
