The Department of School Education and Literacy has banned the use of plastic items in educational institutions across the state.
Despite the ban on single-use plastics coming into effect in 2016, such items are still used in schools and educational institutions.
In addition, schools and educational institutions were also found using bouquets and plastic-wrapped books to welcome dignitaries.
Vishal R., Commissioner of the Department of Public Instruction, issued the circular, which states: “Under the 2016 government decree, single-use plastics are strictly prohibited in the state. Pursuant to this order, the use of tote bags, posters, banners, bunting, plates, cups, spoons, beads made of plastic is strictly prohibited in all schools and educational institutions as well as at gatherings and programs.”
