CBSE boards 2023: 40% questions in 10th, 30% in 12th to be competency based

At least 40 percent of questions in the CBSE Class 10 exam and 30 percent in Class 12 exams in 2023 will be competency-based, the Department of Education said.

These questions will include multiple formats such as objective type, construction answer type, assertion and reasoning, and on case histories.

The information was shared by Education Minister Annapurna Devi in ​​response to a written inquiry in Lok Sabha.

“Following NEP-2020, CBSE has introduced competency-based questions in the class 10 and 12 exams to reform the exam pattern. These questions include multiple formats such as objective type, construction answer type, assertion and reasoning, and case-based format ,” she said.

“In the 2022-23 academic session, about 40 percent of questions in class 10 exams and about 30 percent of questions in class 12 are competency-based,” the minister added.

Class 10 and Class 12 theory exams for the academic year will commence from February 15, 2023. However, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has yet to announce the exam schedule.

The minister further said that after the introduction of the new National Education Policy 2020, the CBSE advised member schools to follow the recommendations regarding the education pattern.

“Prominent among these are competence-based learning, adoption of learning outcomes, use of experiential and joyful learning pedagogies such as arts-integrated education, sports-integrated learning, storytelling etc. secondary education,” said the minister.
