Burning Man Festival In US Ends With Epic 8-Hour Traffic Jam, Photos Go Viral

Long lines of vehicles leave the Nevada desert.

A nine-day music and culture festival in Nevada, in the United States, came to an end on Monday. But those who left the Black Rock desert site found themselves stuck in an eight-hour traffic jam as thousands of vehicles lined up at once, a report in New York Post said. This was the first Burning Man festival after three years of COVID delays. Photos showing the congestion after the revelry are now going viral online.

The Burning Man’s official Twitter account also tweeted on Monday: “The wait time for Exodus is currently around eight hours. Please consider postponing your departure until conditions improve.”

At least 80,000 visitors had reached the location for the nine-day festival.

The photos were posted by these revelers and showed 15 lanes of bumper-to-bumper traffic for miles.

“People love comparing the #Burningman aesthetic to Mad Max… the Exodus from camp is the most Mad Max I’ve felt all week… 5 hours later, two more until I reach the exit gate,” one of the users said on Twittercomparing the wait to “Mad Max”, a film about escaping a dystopian desert environment.

Traffic during “the exodus,” as the exit from the festival is known as the “burners,” is expected, but this year’s stalemate appeared to be unforgiving. The ongoing heat wave and gas crisis have also contributed to the chaos.

For the Burning Man festival, held ahead of Labor Day, thousands traveled from all over the world, dressed in outlandish outfits to party throughout the week.

The festival concluded with the burning of an effigy called the Burning Man. This has been the traditional way of closing the festival since it opened in 1989.
