Both Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik “In Play” For Selection For T20 World Cup Semi-final: Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma-led Team India will face England on Thursday in the second semi-final of the ongoing T20 World Cup at the Adelaide Oval. Team India entered the semi-finals after surpassing Group 2 by 8 points from 10 matches and all eyes would be on which team combination Rohit and co go for an all-important game against the Three Lions. Prior to the match Skipper Rohit Sharma addressed a press conference where he talked about the team’s preparations and what kind of combination the team could compete in.

Wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant got the chance to play XI in India’s last Super 12 game against Zimbabwe, and he had come into the lineup instead of Dinesh Karthik. Pant disappointed, however, as he scored only 3 runs.

“Between DK and Pant, I just had during the last game, Pant was the only man who couldn’t play on this tour at all, except for the two games we played in Perth. They were unofficial exhibition games, but he hasn’t scored a goal since then. He was missing playing time, so we wanted to give him time and also have some options if we want to make changes in the semi-finals or finals,” Rohit said at a pre-match press conference.

“It will be unfair to take a man out of thin air and let him play the game, so that was the thinking. But again, we told the guys that everyone should be ready for whatever game they play, or it’s now the semi-finals or league matches it was also a bit tactical as we didn’t know which team we’d be playing against in the semi-finals for that match in zimbabwe we wanted to make sure the left-handers had a chance to get the spinners counter that bowling the middle. But again, what’s going to happen tomorrow, I can’t tell you, but both goalkeepers will be in play for the roster,” he added.

Suryakumar Yadav has emerged as India’s ‘MVP’ in the ongoing tournament as he has recorded three and a half centuries with a mind-boggling strike rate.

“That’s probably his (Suryakumar) nature and that’s where his fearlessness comes from. He’s a kind of guy who doesn’t carry any luggage. Not his bags, he has a lot of bags. He likes his shopping (laughs). When it comes to wearing that extra pressure, I don’t think he has it in him and you can see it from the way he plays. He’s been playing for like a year now,” said Rohit.

“You can judge the kind of character he is. I don’t know if you’ve heard him in interviews, he likes to play the same way whether we’re 10 to 2 or 100 to 2. He likes to go out and express that’s probably why he was on the team at the last World Cup We didn’t have a great World Cup but looking at what he’s done since the last World Cup as you say SKY is the limit for him He has He has shown great maturity, he put a lot of pressure on a lot of the guys and it rubs off when they punch around him. We understand his game very well,” he added.

Speaking further about Suryakumar, Rohit said: “We understand what the bowler is trying to do when he is hitting. It’s a collective of everything. He likes to play on big grounds, he once told me he doesn’t like to play on smaller grounds where he can’t see the holes. He likes to see the holes and play accordingly.”

Rohit Sharma had received a blow to his forearm on Tuesday. Speaking of the same, the Indian captain said: “I got hit yesterday, but it seems to be going well now. There were some bruises, but it’s all right now.”

India last won the T20 World Cup in 2007 and it has been nine years since the country last won an ICC event. It was under MS Dhoni’s leadership that India won the Champions Trophy in 2013 and since then Team India has eluded an ICC title.
