The DSEK previously said winter holidays were subject to weather conditions and class work would continue until weather permits.
Meanwhile, an official said that the school board had put forward the proposal for winter holidays due to the prevailing cold spell and the lack of proper infrastructure and heating in schools.
“It is a reality that our schools do not have heating facilities and most schools up to secondary level do not have basic infrastructure either. The situation in rural schools is grim,” the official said.
He said that the schools also have accommodation problems making it difficult for the students to attend classes in these cold weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the DSEK said the government would make the formal winter holiday announcements after the proposal is approved.
