Nifty 50 started higher with a positive note at 18,524.4, up from its previous closing price of 18,497.15. This was due to strong global and domestic signals. Leading Wall Street indices rose Monday on strong rallies in heavyweights like Microsoft and Pfizer. However, all eyes will be on the CPI inflation print, which will be released on Tuesday.
In overnight trading, Nasdaq Composite gained 1.26 percent, Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 1.58 percent and S&P 500 1.43 percent. The indices rose the most in a single day since November 30. Asian markets rose in early trading on Tuesday, mirroring Wall Street’s overnight action.
Nifty 50 was trading at 18,580.05 at 12:40 a.m., up 82.9 points or 0.45 percent. The broader market indices underperformed the frontline indices. Useful Center cap 100 index is up 0.3 percent, while the Nifty Small cap 100 index is up 0.25 percent.
The advance-decrease ratio on the BSE was favorable, with 2035 shares rising, 1371 falling and 166 holding unchanged. Aside from real estate, media, FMCG and pharma, all other sectors were trading in the green.
According to the December 12 statistics, FIIs were net sellers, while DIIs were net buyers. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have sold Rs 138.81 crore worth of shares. DIIs (domestic institutional investors) purchased shares worth Rs 695.6 crore.
